Elaine Morton was born in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada then moved to the
United States
when she was 12 years old. In the U.S. she lived on a large hay and beef
cattle farm. Elaine would spend hours drawing and painting the landscape
that surrounded her. Often she would sit up in the barn loft and paint
till the evening hours or sit at the pond edge drawing the trees that
dominated the edge of the fields. One of her first paintings was that of a
red barn. The barn still sits down the road from what has become her home.
With her love of painting she entered a private all girls school nested in the woods where she
received her MFA. There she excelled as an artist and revisited her love
of nature. It was during
this time that her talents came to the attention of the college and her
community.
Elaine has won numerous awards. Some include the award for "Artist Of Distinction" in visual
Arts and the Gertrude H. Feriet Prize " in Fine Arts. She was also the
winner of the prestigious "Long Memorial Award".
Her
first showing was met with great favor. One piece called
"NY Travel" was sold before the show officially opened-while
pieces where scattered about the gallery floor in preparation for there
proper display.
Additional work has
since been commissioned and Elaine has shown
her artwork and furniture pieces in galleries in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Prior
to launching eMorton Art Elaine managed a Faux Finish company in Virginia and applied finishes
and art work in model homes though-out Maryland where she further
developed her art and decorative skills.
